Aviva Stadium History
Aviva stadium is one of Ireland’s notable sports venues and home to the Irish national rugby and Republic of Ireland soccer teams. It was built on the original site of the famous Lansdowne Road Stadium, dating back to 1872. it was the oldest rugby union ground worldwide and the oldest sports stadium in Europe.
Aviva Stadium re-opened on 14th of May 2010 and has a seated capacity of 51,700The stadium’s most notable features are its curvilinear shaped stands enclosing the complete stadium, a shape specifically chosen to make sure that the whole area around gets enough sunlight.
It’s a 3km walk from The Chancery or ten minutes by car. Stadium tours include dressing rooms, players tunnel, dugouts, and press areas. Tours run seven days a week on the hour, starting at 10:00 am with the last tour until 4:00 pm (apart from the day of a match). Bookings are not required, but still recommended, and can be made by phone +353 (0) 1 238 2300 or email tours@avivastadium.ie. The tour costs €5.00. Bargain!
