Time Travel at Your Doorstep: Dublin Castle
Next door to The Chancery Hotel you can step back in time through the gates of Dublin Castle into this beautifully preserved estate. Dating back to the Viking settlement of the 13th century the castle and its buildings exteriors and lavish interiors tell the story of the history of our country from Viking invasion, through British rule and finally Irish State government. Also housed on site is the magnificent Chester Beatty Museum. This is a must-visit for us and a favourite on ‘hidden gem’ lists for Dublin visits. The Museum holds important and incredibly beautiful collections of ancient Islamic and Christian manuscripts as well as objects from Asia and the Middle East dating back as far as 2700BC The exhibits are atmospherically mounted and the ‘Silk Road’ café is well worth a visit too.
